Sweet Potato Burgers

Okay, I can’t take any of the credit for this delicious burger. I got the recipe off Hallmark’s Home and Family site. I talked a little bit about New Year’s resolutions in a previous post; for you people that haven’t given it a read yet, I’ve started a new morning routine that gives me a enough time to get stuff done and relax in the morning. This routine usually includes watching Home and Family on Hallmark channel, while I get some things done. This show always has at least one cooking segment on it and the recipes are to die for! The one featured in this blog was made by a silver medalist Olympian. She is a firm believer in the power of plants and how they have all the protein a person needs. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love a good cheeseburger, but this sweet potato burger is a great lighter version. I even found that it was better the next day. I packed the patty for lunch and didn’t even need to heat it up. It has an abundant amount of flavor and is packed with tons of fiber and protein. I’ll go through some of the main reasons I love this burger…

  • Fiber- This dish is packed with fiber which aids in digestion and gut health. The amount of fiber in this dish roughly comes out to about 45 grams in all the burgers, making it about 8 grams per burger. With the amount of fiber in the sweet potato being 5 grams, the chick peas being 35 grams (holy crap, literally), and the oatmeal being 5 grams.
  • Flavor- The flavor in these burgers are stunning. It has such a diverse group of spices such as, cinnamon, chili powder, and garlic. They all complement each other and the sweet potato in a astonishing way.
  • Veggies- Every once in awhile I just need a break from meat. So, if you’re craving something like a burger, but want to keep it light, this is your dish.
  • Child Approved- I don’t have any children, but my husband eats like one. 🙂 I’ve got to give him credit, he’s actually branched out with his palate and I’m very proud. He was a little weary of this dish at first. Actually, he was kind of offended that I would go and change the all mighty burger (which I get). He actually liked it though!! Yay!
