Simple Homemade Margherita Pizza

Simple Homemade Margherita Pizza? Yes, Please!

I always joke that my favorite food is anything that contains bread, pasta, or cheese. I’m a sucker for a good pizza and trust me, I’ve tried a lot of pizzas. My favorite pizza though is a margherita pizza. I love it because it’s the type of pizza that you don’t feel greasy after eating it. It’s made with whole ingredients that speak to my soul. There is something so special about a dish that comes together with few amazing ingredients. I feel like people have this misconception that a great dish has to contain a lot of “fancy” ingredients. It’s just so untrue. I create so many delicious dishes with under ten ingredients. It’s not about the amount of ingredients that you have, but the quality. C’mon people, have you never heard of the saying, “quality over quantity”. Lets get into these quality ingredients and show you how to make a simple homemade margherita pizza!

I have to admit that I might have cheated a little and used a store bought pizza crust at the store for the pizza you see in the picture. I do make homemade pizza crust though and it is delicious. I completely implore you to try making your own pizza crust at least once, but I totally understand if you just want a crust in a snap. Sometimes we just don’t have the time to make homemade pizza crust and that’s fine. If you end up making your own pizza crust, I suggest you use Sally’s Baking Addiction or Food Network’s dough recipe.

Take the measurements for this recipe with a grain of salt. This is the way I like the pizza and while these are the sizes of ingredients I buy, sometimes I use a little less or a little more. Make this pizza your own!

Cooking time

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Sweet Summer or 4 Roma Tomatoes

  • 16 oz Fresh Mozzarella Pre-Sliced

  • Fresh Basil Leaves

  • 1/4 cup Olive Oil

  • 1-2 tbsp Italian Herbs

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 Pizza Crust

Directions

  • First, preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, prepare your tomatoes and basil. Chop your summer cherry tomatoes in half or your roma tomatoes into slices. Chop your basil into thin slices or feel free to tear them up with your hands. Set these two ingredients aside.
  • Pour the olive oil on the pizza crust. Brush the pizza with the oil, covering all areas of the pizza. Sprinkle half of the Italian herbs on top of the olive oil. Then, cover the pizza with your mozzarella and tomatoes. Make it your own and add as many or as little of these ingredients as you like.
  • Sprinkle the remaining Italian herbs and salt on top of the pizza. Add the pizza to the oven and cook for 15 mins or until the cheese has melted.
  • Take the pizza out of the oven. Add the basil to the top of the pizza and serve!
